More famous than known, Tantra is a millenary science that refers to the life of man and to his spiritual evolution.
Deriving from the combination of Sanskrit words “TAN” which means warp, intertexture, network and also expansion, together with the word “TRA” that means instrument, the word “TANTRA” would mean, in a first translation, a set of methods and instruments (that are structured in a network) in order to obtain the expansion of conscience or to create a network of conscious connections between elements of reality that are apparently separated, thus obtaining a more and more encompassing understanding.
That which the vast majority of people do not know is the fact that Tantra is the spiritual root from where, a long time ago, important branches of yoga derived together with adaptations to the local conditions of life and evolution, such as Tibetan Tantra or Buddhist Tantra. Due to the lack of correct and coherent information, as well as to the lack of practice, nowadays Tantra is regarded, especially in the West, as a set of strange sexual practices meant only to prolong sexual pleasure and to improve performance at this level, but without speaking of the deep transformations of the being during these super-sensual experiences. This is just a superficial view. In reality, Tantra stays as one of the most spectacular systems that have been transmitted to us from ancient times, aiming to guide the aspirant towards a high spiritual state and realization, helping him successfully surpasses the limitations that were self-imposed in the process of personality development. Tantra is directly oriented towards Truth and does not lose itself in sterile formalisms that protect and amplify the meaningless labyrinth of the ego. For that reason, very well knowing that “truth scares the pervert or the ignorant”, we can understand why, many times, around the Tantra teachings one wove legends and myths that tended to avert the superficial seeker from its true path. In the frame of the spiritual system that we generically call “Tantra”, physics and metaphysics, science and spirituality cannot remain separated but are united in a daring and deep synthesis that brings all that is valuable from each one to the light of direct knowledge.
“Tantra, i.e. the cult of ecstasy is a spiritual way based on the mystic experience of play, rather than stiff dogmas, as some might erroneously believe. Tantrics support life as a whole and they learn to discover the divine spark inside the human being. They use all senses, their mind and spirit to reach top mystic experiences.”
